We fix what is wrong

If a story contains a mistake, we correct it as soon as we have checked. The correction is made in the story itself, not in a separate note nobody reads.

How it is shown

A line at the foot of the article says what was changed and when. We do not quietly rewrite. Small fixes to spelling or grammar are made without a note.

Corrections and clarifications

A correction fixes a fact that was wrong. A clarification adds something that made a true statement misleading. Both are dated.

How to report one

Use the form on the contact page and choose Correction. Tell us which story and what is wrong. A named editor answers within one working day.

What we will not do

We do not remove a story because someone dislikes it. We do remove or amend one when it is wrong, unfair or puts a person at risk.

The log

Every correction of the last twelve months is listed on this page, newest first, once you add them here.
