A news magazine: reporting, opinion, a podcast and a newsletter. Reading it is free up to a limit; members read everything.

Our work

The stories, photographs and recordings belong to the newsroom unless a credit says otherwise. Quote a few lines with a link if you like; do not republish whole stories.

Your membership

A membership renews each month or year until you cancel. Cancel from your account page at any time; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

Writing to us

A message to the desk is a message to the newsroom, not a contract. We may quote a letter we publish; we ask first.

Opinion

Columns are the view of the person who signs them. News stories are not.

Links

Links to other sites open other sites; what they do with you is up to them.
